Antoine Griezmann's effort condemn Leicester City to a defeat in Madrid
Spanish club Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 defeated current English champions Leicester City 1-0 in their first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter final encounter played in Madrid.
Antoine Griezmann's controversial penalty in the 28th minute condemned the Premier League club to a defeat in Spain.
Atletico Madrid started the encounter with flurry of attack from the duo of Fernando Torres and Antoine Griezmann, but Leicester City defenders were able to cope with the pressure.
But in the 28th minute, Marc Albrighton was adjudged to have brought down Antoine Griezmann inside the box in which the referee had no choice than to blow for a spot kick.
Griezmann then stepped up to cover the spot kick sending Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel the wrong way.
City tried in the second half through Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez to atleast leave the Spanish capital with a point, but all their efforts were futile as they will now have to fight hard for survival in the return leg in England.
